Urban schools are experiencing increasing numbers of students from immigrant & refugee backgrounds. Students of color, those with disabilities, and English language learners are all at an increased risk in relation to the school-to-prison pipeline. Academically these students are also at a disadvantage because of low teacher expectations, ability tracking, educational barriers, segregated educational placements, and anti-immigrant bias. This panel presentation will explore how schools can better support immigrant, refugee, & asylum seeking youth & their families.
